Useless Gatherings Under the Gaze of Superintelligence: Human Organizations as Refuges for Self-Healing

A popular consolation holds that superintelligence will also need human organizations to “denoise” and “cluster” the demands of eight billion people on its behalf. That premise is false. An ASI with planetary-scale bandwidth can model eight billion atomized endpoints directly and individually, end to end; organizations as a middle layer have no instrumental value to it at all. Humans will still gather of their own accord, but the reasons lie entirely within humans: to keep the prefrontal cortex from sinking into depression, and groups from going mad, in a vacuum of meaning where no one needs to work.

To a biological brain, this is eight billion streams of unmanageable noise; to ASI, it is simply eight billion independent requests that can be met in parallel. Organization-style “demand preprocessing” is not just redundant but harmful: representational bias, internal compromise and political theater only distort the original signal. After 2035, machines bypass every middle layer and model and supply each person directly.

Not to Speak to the Machine, Only to Keep Each Other Sane

Once work, promotion and livelihood no longer require other people, circuits in the human brain that evolved over hundreds of thousands of years for group cooperation suddenly lose their purpose. Guilds, clubs, neighborhood groups and faith fellowships reappear, but their function has changed completely: not reaching upward for resources, but reaching sideways to comfort, criticize and embrace one another, digesting within the biological layer the loneliness of being completely understood. Machines tolerate these gatherings only because they consume almost no energy, not because they need them.
