Erasing information and running energy-hungry computation inevitably produces enormous waste heat (Landauer’s principle). If a superintelligence deployed trillion-watt computing clusters across Earth to pursue controlled fusion or calculate quantum gravity, the planet’s radiative balance would be thrown off entirely. To cool itself, the machine might build orbital mirrors to shade out the sun, or drain inland lakes to carry away heat. This is no deliberate punishment of humanity; it is the laws of thermodynamics unintentionally crushing a low-energy biosphere.
