“Death gives time its weight; pain shapes the outline of courage.” Faced with mind uploading and mechanical ascension, the Bio-Purists (Homo purus) vow to reject invasive brain chips and retain natural conception, bodily aging and death, and labor under gravity. This branch assumes that ASI’s planetary energy zoning continues to designate the low-compute surface as reserves. Under that condition, they become the last tomb-keepers and pilgrims of ancient civilization in protected “offline natural reserves.”
Charter of Life and Core Principles
- Physical precept: no exogenous wireless computing node may be implanted under the skin or in the central nervous system.
- Reverence for irreversibility: aging and death are held sacred; multiple backups of consciousness are refused.
- Flesh-and-blood reproduction: conception by the natural union of egg and sperm; synthetic optimization at the genetic level is forbidden.
- Embodied work: farming, woodcraft, pottery and handwritten paper scrolls are the main vessels of the spirit.
Key Indicators of the Civilization
Just as the Amish of Pennsylvania have kept their buggies and refused the power grid for centuries, the Bio-Purists do not “lack intelligence”; they have deliberately chosen to “stop here,” on the strength of a profound ontological philosophy.
They believe that once consciousness plugs into light-speed networks, the uniquely human capacities for contemplation and compassion will be scoured into desert by an endlessly swelling torrent of information. The reserves are not backward slums but high-dimensional nature parks whose safety is guaranteed by superintelligence acting as an “external deity.”
First: the flight of the young (apostasy). Every generation raised in the reserves, hearing the Cyber-Ascendants proclaim “unlimited perception,” faces a trial of temptation close to torture—even though the real price of upload is the dissolution of the self.
Second: a dependence it cannot defend. The reserves remain peaceful and pure only because ASI’s planetary energy zoning happens to assign this low-compute stretch of surface to them. If the thermodynamic cost accounting ever changes, a purely carbon-based civilization has no physical means of defense or response.
